Governing Board

The Governing Board is comprised of five trustees, elected at large by district residents to serve four-year terms. The Board makes decisions on policy for all public schools within the district and the district as a whole.

The Governing Board is responsible for establishing educational goals and standards; approving curriculum; setting the district budget; confirming appointment of all personnel; and approving purchases of equipment, supplies, services, leases, renovation, construction, and union contracts. In order to manage the day-to-day administration of the district, the Governing Board appoints a superintendent of schools.

The meeting agenda is posted online via our board meeting portal page, typically 72 hours prior to the meeting date. A PDF file of all board actions on agenda items will be posted here within a resonable timeframe (typically 24-48 hours).

Meeting Procedures

The Governing Board encourages members of the public to attend Board meetings and address the Board with regards to any item on the agenda or within the jurisdiction of the Board. Guidelines for public comment and participation are set forth in Bylaw 9323: Meeting Conduct.

Public Comment

Those wanting to address the Board should complete a Speaker Card located at the entrance and submit said card to the Board Recorder prior to the item on the agenda being addressed to the Board.

Speakers are customarily given two minutes to address the Board. The Board president may limit the public comment period for each item to 20 minutes as neccessary. However, when necessary to ensure full opportunity for public input, the Board president may, with Board consent, adjust the amount of time allowed for public input and/or the time allotted for each speaker. Members of the public who utilize a translator and wish to address the Board shall be provied double the allotted time to address the Board, unless real-time translation equipment is being used.

Meeting Recording

Members of the public may record an open Board meeting using an audio or video recorder, still or motion picture camera, cell phone, or other device, provided that the noise, illumination, or obstruction of view does not persistently disrupt the meeting. The Superintendent or designee may designate locations from which members of the public may make such recordings without causing a distraction.
